Newport, RI - Abbie I. Greenman Riegel, 72, of 19 Chapel Street, Newport, RI, formerly of 263 Park Holm, Newport, RI, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at South County Nursing Rehabilitation Center, North Kingstown, RI. She was the wife of Robert Allen Riegel Sr. of Newport. Born in Newport, RI on October 28, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Plymesser and Mary Perry Plymesser. Abbie enjoyed playing Bingo at the Knights of Columbus and the Elks, where she also played Bocce for several years. She enjoyed going to First Beach for the concerts they held during the summer. Abbie had a big heart, she had an open door policy at their home where all the neighborhood kids enjoyed her homemade icys, and nobody was turned away and everybody that entered became family. She always had time to help a friend or stranger in whatever way she could. Besides her husband with whom she just celebrated their 50th anniversary, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael A. Riegel of Narragansett, RI, Emily Quarry of Middletown, RI, Robert A. Riegel Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, Susan Watts of Newport, RI, Charles R. Riegel of Fall River, MA, Edward J. Riegel of Portsmouth, RI, Melissa Torres of Newport, RI, her siblings, Frank, James, Robert and, Wayne Greenman, Louise Smith, Thomas, Arthur, and Robert Plymesser, the loves of her life fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and was especially close to her cousins, Joyce and Carl Peebles of Ft. Myers, FL, her niece Judy and Roland Dallaire of Westport, MA, her nephew Tommy Nasser, Jr. of Middletown, RI.She was the sister of late Cyris Plymesser, Raymond Plymesser, George Plymesser and Shirley Connolly.Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 9:00AM, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.
