Achilles Valtaras Portsmouth, RI - Achilles Valtaras, 83, of 96 Lambie Circle, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Cambridge, MA, and Greece, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at his daughter?s home in Portsmouth, RI. He was the husband of the late Victoria Kontos Valtaras, to whom he was married for 54 years. Born in Bulgaria on November 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Sotirios and Maria Valtaras.Mr. Valtaras moved to the US in 1975 and began work in the Boston for Jimmys Harborside Restaurant. Over the years his hard work provided great opportunities for his children. For the last 13 years, he has spent his time between Portsmouth, RI with his grandchildren and in Greece attending to his olive tree farm. He is survived by a daughter Anna Kyriakides of Portsmouth, RI two sons Argyrios Valtaras of Cambridge, MA, and Sotirios Valtaras also of Cambridge, MA, and four grandchildren Katerina Valtaras, Genna Kyriakides, Victoria Kyriakides, and Stathi Kyriakides. He was preceded in death by his wife and several siblings in Greece. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 13, at 10:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Monday, February 12 from 5-7 in the Memorial Funeral Home.
