Adelaide Rosemary Stout

Adelaide Rosemary Yeager Stout, 90 of Middletown died peacefully on February 21, 2008 after a prolonged illness.Born in Erie, PA, on March 25, 1917, she was the daughter of Peter J. and Ottilie Kirsch Yeager.She was the wife of her late husband of 45 years, Robert W. Stout 1915 - 1987.She attended Villa Maria Academy and College in Erie, PA. She was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Interior and the General Electric Company prior to her marriage. She moved to Newport with her family when Raytheon located to Aquidneck Island in 1959 and to Middletown the following year. She was active in the Mothers Club of DeLaSalle Academy, Newport, from 1959 - 1967, serving as a officer of the club for several years. During the 1960s she also volunteered at the Red Cross and the Preservation Society of Newport. She worked as a legal secretary for the law offices of A.L. Greenberg for more than 10 years after her children were of high school age. She as an accomplished bridge player, playing in tournaments throughout the United States and Bermuda and attaining the rank of silver life master. As well as playing bridge, she enjoyed introducing others to the pleasures and challenges of bridge. Together with Thomas Stetson, she taught bridge at the Newport Senior Center Edward King House from 1990 to 1999. She also volunteered at the St. Clare Home from 1988 to 2005. She was a communicant at St. Marys Church in Newport, and a Eucharistic minister to the sick for many years, ending in 2004.She is survived by three sons and one daughter Robert and his wife Paula Delaney of Sarasota, FL, Michael and his wife Polly Bestoso of Columbia, SC, and Newport, RI, William and his wife Patricia Zuber of Portsmouth, RI and Janet and her husband David Aldrich of Andover, MA and Middletown, RI. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.She was sister of the late Dorothy, Mildred, Dolores, Ceclia, Raymond, Joseph, Edward and Peter.Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2008 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport, RI.Calling hours will be at the Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, February 24, from 4 - 7 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Preservation Society of Newport County.
