Adeline Florence Turner

Middletown, RI - Adeline F. Nunes Turner, 91, formerly of 824 Middle Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Joshua Turner Jr. Born in New Bedford, MA on Sep. 28, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Nora Nunes.Adeline married her childhood sweetheart and they resided in Warren, RI. In 1955, they relocated from New Bedford to a home in Portsmouth, next to St. Mary?s Episcopal Church. Adeline and Josh became active members of St. Mary?s Church. She served as President of the Parent Teacher Fellowship and was a founding member and organizer of the Thrift Shop, Church Vestment Director and, above all, Poet Laureate of St. Mary?s Church. The Church played an important role in her life and the poetry included in ?Patchwork Poems? mainly centers around St. Mary?s Church, it?s clergy, members and beautiful grounds. She continued to write poetry, adding to the c ollection of ?Patchwork Poems? first published at St. Mary?s in 1992. Mrs. Turner worked from her house as a seamstress until mid 1990. She is survived by her sons Richard D. Turner of Portsmouth, RI, and Russell D. Turner of Weymouth, MA, her brother Frederick Nunes of New Bedford, MA, and three grandchildren Kristen Latas of Cape Coral, FL, Dwight Turner of Dansbury, NH and Craig Turner of Mapleville, RI. She was the sister of the late Gilbert Nunes, Francis Nunes, William Nunes, and Vera Queen.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at 10:00am in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, from 2-4 and 7-9, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary?s Episcopal Church Building Fund 324 East Main Road Portsmouth, RI 02871
