Agnes Amtower

On April 30, 2015, Agnes Amtower (age 94) passed away in Williamsburg, VA. She was born in Fall River, MA, on April 21, 1921.Her parents were the late Edward L. Moffett and Bridget Martin Moffett. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Portsmouth, RI. Agnes spent her early years in Portsmouth, attending St. Anthony Parish Church, enjoying going to the beach in the summer and ice skating on the many local ponds during the winter. She graduated from Rogers High School and then worked locally until she met and married her late husband, James Frederick Amtower Sr. She spent the rest of her married life supporting her husband during his career in the United States Navy and later with the Federal Aviation Administration. Together they had two children, James F. Amtower Jr. of Williamsburg, VA, and Patricia Louise Amtower Trowbridge of McLean, VA. Agnes dearly loved music, dancing and especially singing. She sang in many base chapel choirs as she traveled around the country with her husband. After returning to Portsmouth in the mid-1990s, Agnes sang in the choir at St. Anthony Parish Church and later in the Island Senior Chorus. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed doing needlework. Agnes is survived by her two children; two granddaughters, Dawn M. Barclift and Deborah A. Barclift Adenan; one great granddaughter, Emma M. Adenan all of Alexandria, VA; and her sister Eileen Moffett Grev of Portsmouth, RI. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10 AM at St. Anthony Parish Church on East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, with interment to follow at St Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River, MA.
