Alan Sinclair, PhD, 86, of Bristol, Rhode Island, died on January 12, 2025. He was the husband of Deborah (Stott) Sinclair.
Born in Fall River, MA on May 31, 1938, he was the son of the late Duncan and Ethel (Abram) Sinclair. Alan grew up in Fall River and exhibited natural abilities in school and in music. He was a talented Pianist and Organist as a young man. He earned his Master's Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Physics, then earned his PhD in Education from Boston University. Alan was a teacher throughout his life, yet his career brought him through all levels of education and administration. He served as the Deputy Commissioner for Education in RI for several years, a Headmaster of the former St. Dunstan's Day School in Providence, and he returned to the classroom at the end of his career, teaching Physics in Dartmouth, MA.
In retirement, Alan was a proficient woodworker, self taught and quite talented. He also thoroughly enjoyed golf, and spent many days enjoying walking in nature, both in RI and in Florida, where he and Deborah enjoyed their winters for 18 years. They also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips to Europe and exploring the history.
Alan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Deborah Sinclair of Bristol, and their two children; Peter Sinclair and his wife Renee of Westport, MA, and Leanne Tolle and her husband Norman of New York, and his three grandchildren.
Alan is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Francis Sinclair.
A Memorial Service will be on January 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
