Portsmouth, - Albert J. Lapointe, 79, of 45 Coreys Court Portsmouth, formerly of Central Falls, RI, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at home. He was the husband of Irene Barriere Lapointe. They would have celebrated their 56th anniversary on May 24. Born in Pawtucket, RI on September 12, 1923, he was the son of the late Albert Lapointe and Louise Cardin Lapointe. Mr. Lapointe retired from the Navy in 1960 as Chief Petty Officer. He served as a cook and fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the Navy, he worked at the Portsmouth Abbey School as a head chef and later for Raytheon Corp, retiring again in 1985. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association of Newport and was an avid fisherman. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters daughters Nancy Hamilton of Middletown, RI, and Patricia Lapointe of Warwick, RI, his brother Robert Lapointe of St. Charles, MO, his sister Theresa DuPont of Pawtucket, RI, and one granddaughter Michelle Teolis of Smithfield, RI. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
