Newport, RI - Albert Lozito, 83, Newport, RI, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI. Born in Providence, RI on February 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Sebastian P. and Angelina Rose Radice Lozito.He is survived by his sister Claire Salvatrice Lozito Martin, his nephew David Martin and his wife Kathleen of Middletown, his nieces Anne Nagle and her husband John, Mary Fitzgerald, the wife of the late Andrew Fitzgerald and Nancy Langello and her husband John of Gilbert, AZ. He is also survived by a grand niece Sarah Nagle and grand nephew Michael Nagle. After graduating from Rogers High School in Newport, Albert joined his uncles, Daniel and Francis Radice, in their construction of outstanding homes in Newport and Middletown. In the 1950s, he became affiliated with the Stan Thompson Golf Co. of California, and sold their products to Pro Shops in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Always interested in construction of early American furniture, Al began going to auctions and opened an antique shop, The Lamplighter, on Spring Street in Newport. Over the years he also amassed a collection of antiques for his own home.Al enjoyed sharing his many jokes and absurdities with his friends and family. He participated in local coin and stamp clubs in Newport and served as an usher at St Josephs Church in Newport. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew himHis funeral will be held on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 in St Josephs Church Mann Ave and BroadwayBurial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday May 31, 2011 from 4-7pm in the in the Funeral Home.
