Newport, RI - Alberta (Fickett) OMeara, 78, of Forest Farm Assisted Living, Middletown formerly of Mumford Manor, Newport and Stamford, Connecticut died unexpectedly on May 16th, 2012. She was born in Stamford, Connecticut to Chester and Alberta (Cook) Fickett on September 14, 1933. She was the sister of the late, Richard Fickett. She was known by family and friends as Honey. She leaves four children, Wendy S. Schmidle of East Greenwich, RI, Laurie A. E. OMeara of South Yarmouth, MA, Thomas J. OMeara, Jr. of Lancaster, CA and John Fickett OMeara, Sr. of New Sweden, ME. Her nine grandchildren, Heather, Hillary, Jonathan, Katherine, Diane, Anya, John, Tom and James, were very important to her and she kept in touch with them with small packages and notes. She is survived by her former husband, Thomas J. OMeara, Sr. and also leaves two nieces. She had an opportunity to spend time living in many places by the ocean. She enjoyed sitting on the beach on Cape Cod, Coronado, California, Hawaii and Goddard Park in East Greenwich. Her hobby of knitting for her family, tending her African violets, playing bingo and cooking were her recent pastimes. She had owned a yarn shop at one point and was quick to help anyone learn a new stitch. She was an expert knitter. Always outgoing, she would always strike up a conversation with whomever she met. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 21st at 11:00 am in Spring Grove Cemetery, Post Road, Darien, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations in Albertas name may be made to the Forest Farm Assisted Living Activities Fund (Forest Farm Assisted Living, 191 Forest Ave, Middletown, RI 02842) to ensure the residents continue to enjoy those things Alberta found so important to her happiness.
