Middletown, RI - Aldina Mello Paiva, 85, of Forest Farm, Middletown, RI, formerly of Bayside Village, Newport, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Francis A. Paiva. Born in Fall River, MA on April 2, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James and Joanne Mello.Aldina was a waitress for many years at the Old Oaks Club in Purchase, NY and City Club in Yonkers, NY before moving to Newport where she worked as a diet aide for several years at Forest Farm Health Care Center. She then took her cooking skills to LaForge Casino Restaurant where she was a preparatory cook. At the LaForge Restaurant they added her famous split pea soup to the menu and called it Mrs. Ps Pea Soup. Aldina loved her family and praised all her grandchildren. She was known for her love of cooking and her undying love and kindness by taking care of everyone. She is survived by her sons Robert J. Paiva and his wife Marianne of Orange Park, FL, Thomas J. Paiva of Providence, RI and James Paiva and his wife Katie of West Greenwich, RI, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Francis A. Paiva, Jr. and sister of the late Manuel Mello, James Mello, John Mello and Mary Silvia. Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 4, 2008, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008, from 3-6pm, in the funeral home.
