Alfred H. Amaral, Sr

Middletown, RI - Alfred Henry Amaral Sr., 95, of 193 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of Ward Avenue, Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Irene Helen Lavoie Amaral.Born in Tiverton, RI on May 14, 1916, he was the son of the late Celestino and Mary Mello Amaral.Mr. Amaral served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a manager in the supply depot on the Newport Naval Base. Mr. Amaral was very active in sports as a young man and had coached Middletown Little League. He enjoyed playing golf at Green Valley Country Club. He and Mrs. Amaral wintered in Florida for 30 years. Mr. Amaral was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Newport and Middletown and the V.F.W. He is survived by his children, Pauline A. Buckley and her husband Wilfred of Newport, RI, Patricia H. Donnell and her husband William of Melbourne, FL, Fred H. Amaral, Jr. and his wife Bess of Carrolton, TX, Linda M. Sullivan and her husband Paul of Middletown, RI, and Susan C. Amaral of Middletown, RI, his sister Mary Moniz of Tiverton, RI. Mr. Amaral also leaves eight grandchildren, Patti Bedard, Ellen Kelly, Joe Buckley, Kathy Hicks, John Donnell, Billy Donnell, Brian Sullivan and Christopher Amaral. He was the great grandfather of Elise Kelly, Jennifer Buckley, Daniel Buckley, Sara Hicks, Krista Hicks, John Donnell, Minh Donnell, Erin Donnell, Maximillian Donnell, Emily Donnell, Gavin Sullivan, Catherine Sullivan, Jordan Amaral, Madeline Amaral, Lindsey Bedard and Douglas Bedard.He was the great grandfather of the late Brigid Kelly. Calling hours will be held the morning of the funeral from 8:00 to 9:30.His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 9:30am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial with military honors will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
