On October 31, 2022, at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River, Alice D. Bryant, of Portsmouth, was called home to heaven at the age of 88. She was born in Philadelphia in 1934 to proud parents, Paul J. Carmel Sr., and Alice Clark Carmel, both who have passed. She was the second born of six children and is survived by three sisters, JoAnn Parker of NJ, Karen Carmel of FL, and Louan Falzetta of NJ. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Paul Carmel Jr. and sisters Judith Carmel and Margaret Crosthwait.
Her family eventually moved to Atlantic City where she met William J. Bryant Sr., (deceased 2018). They married in Atlantic City, NJ on New Year's Eve 1952 and together they had four children. Alice was pre-deceased by her daughter, Deborah A. Owens and son-in-law Douglas M. Owens Sr. Her surviving children are William J. Bryant Jr. and his wife Lisa, Alice Aledia and her husband Lamberto and Michael J. Bryant and his wife Ellie. Alice also leaves ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Alice had a long career as a phone operator with various phone companies. She was hired in Atlantic City, transferred to Newport before retiring with Verizon out of the Fall River, MA office.
In the early 70's, Alice volunteered at the Middletown Babe Ruth concession stand. She also served as secretary for a short time. Alice was a big fan of the Red Sox. She enjoyed camping around New England especially in the fall. Among her favorite campgrounds were Miles Standish, Melville Ponds, White Ledge, Shady Knoll, Saco on the River and Stone Mountain, GA. Watching the sun set, gardening, crafting and bird watching also brought her great joy. She was an avid reader and has read all the Nicholas Sparks Novels with Danielle Steele a close second.
