Alice Duce

Middletown, RI - Alice Duce, 94, of 467 Wolcott Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, January 12, 2011 at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick, RI with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.She was the wife of the late Herbert William Duce.Born in Westfield, MA on December 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Adelaide Burnett Hallbourg. Alice graduated from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a Registered Nurse both in private duty and for Dr. William Levin. Mrs. Duce was a member of the Newport Congregational Church and the Newport Hospital Alumni Association. Alice and Bill were the proprietors of Blaine Jewelers on Americas Cup Avenue and later Blaine-Duce Jewelers in Middletown. In retirement, she ran a BB from her home from 1990 to 2002.She is survived by son Robert William Duce of Lutz, FL , daughter Sandra Saunders of East Greenwich, RI, her brother Donald Hallbourg of Stockton, CA and a sister Shirley Jones of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and one granddaughter Jennifer Saunders of Foster, RI. She is preceded in death by her brothers David, Darwin and Walter Hallbourg.A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced in the United Congregational Church, Valley Road, Middletown.
