Alice (Blaney) Couser, 73, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of David Couser for 24 years.
Born in Quincy, MA on October 13, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (McNally) Blaney.
Alice was a 1968 graduate from Middletown High School and worked at People's Credit Union before becoming a secretary at various commands on NAVSTA Newport. She retired from federal service after 25 years in 1997. After her retirement, Alice worked as a hostess at Salas's Restaurant in Newport until it's closing. She loved going to the beach with her friends and family, reading and watching her beloved Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. She also loved spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her husband David of Newport, and two stepdaughters, Maura Ann Vande Hey and Colleen Tilkens, both of Wisconsin, her sister Linda Blaney of Newport. Her stepson Bill, brother Jim and sisters Judy and Susan predeceased her. She will also be missed by her many friends and family members. Alice's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many professionals at Newport Hospital, Grand Islander, and VNS Home and Hospice for their care over the years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 11:00AM-1PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. A celebration of Alice's life gathering will be held afterwards at a place to be announced at the Memorial Service.
