Newport, RI - Alice Marie Mello Ferreira, formally of Dearborn Street, 7C Pond Avenue and 25 Ayrault Street, Newport, died peacefully on Thursday, April 10 2008 at Village House Nursing Home after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Ferreira, who died in 1991, and a daughter, Rosemarie Demma Marshall, who died in 1979. Born in Newport, RI on August 17, 1924, and a life long resident, she was the devoted daughter of the late Ernest and Josephine Amaral Mello.She long served as the subscription clerk at the Newport Daily News leaving in 1977. She also worked for General Electric Monowatt from 1952-1956. Mrs. Ferreira attended local schools and was a long time parishioner of St. Josephs Church and was a member of its altar and rosary societies. In addition, she belonged to the Third Order of Franciscans, the Island House of Prayer, St. Augustins Prayer Group and the Newport Preservation Society. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Demma Call and her husband, David Call Sr., of Middletown, a son, Thomas Demma and his wife, Dimity, of Ferndale, Washington, a sister, Mary Mello Martin of Newport, RI, and two brothers, Albert Red Mello of Middletown, RI and Ernest Mello and his wife, Margaret, of Merritt Island, Florida. She was the loving grandmother to David Call Jr., Elaine Call DeFeo, Lynn Marshall Feola, John Marshall III, Meghan Landry and Joshua Demma and a great grandmother of twelve: Haley, Lauren and Julia Call, Abby and Nicholas DeFeo, Sophie and Samuel Landry, Jessica and Paul Feola, Catherine, Jack and Sara Marshall and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Newport County Meals on Wheels, c/o 70 Bath Street,
