Alice Mary Sanches

Newport, RI - Alice Mary Sanches, 94, of 7 Dexter Street, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Heatherwood Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late William Sanches. Born in Newport, RI on June 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Soares Santos. Mrs. Sanches was a communicant of St. Lucy?s Church. She was an avid gardener, growing vegetables and was known for her strawberry patch. Mrs. Sanches as a young mother knitted and sewed for her family and friends. She was a former duck pin bowler. She is survived by her children William and Joyce Sanches of Crosby, TX, Robert and Beverly Sanches of Newport, RI, Donald and Debra Sanches of Portsmouth, RI, Jean M. Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI, and Jude M. Tucker of Marthas Vineyard, MA, her grandchildren Daniel and Brenna Sanches of Portsmouth, RI, Christopher and Shari Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI, Bruce and Elizabeth Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI, Stephanie and Robert Peterman, of Colt?s Neck, NJ, Eric and Tracey Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI and Justine Tucker of Martha?s Vineyard, and her great grandchildren, Dustin M. and Cassidy J. Alvanas, Kyle A. and Evan J. Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI, Hailey K. and Christopher M. Peterman of Colt?s Neck, NJ and Alexis J. and Andrew J. Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI. She was the mother of the late Joan M. Sanches, and the sister of the late Joseph G. Santos, William Santos, George Santos, Helen Pacheco, Emily Ann Kinch, Rose Carrellas, Mary Pinto, Dorothy Walters and Anna Leite. Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 26, 2007, at 8:00am. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am, in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
