Newport, RI - Alice DeCosta Massed, 77, of 23 Hoppin Road, Newport, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Village House Newport, RI.She was the wife of Michael George Massed. Born in Newport, RI on April 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Georgianna Pacheco DeCosta. Mrs. Massed worked for the city of Newport in the city clerks office for 25 years. After retiring from the City of Newport, she worked as a teachers aid at Sheffield School in the special education program. Mrs. Massed was a member of Jesus Saviour Church, the Rosary Sodality, the Vasco da Gama Society, the feast committe for Holy Ghost and the Jesus Saviour Church Choir. Besides her husband of 52 years she is survived by two sons Stephen Massed and James M. Massed both of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Michele Massed of Newport, RI, three brothers Joseph DeCosta and Edmund DeCosta both of Middletown, RI, and William DeCosta of Tampa, FL, two sisters Mary Dias of Middletown, RI, and Gilda DeCosta of Portsmouth, RI, five grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Jesse DeCosta and Antone DeCosta. Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 19, 2004, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.
