Allene Reynolds

Newport, RI - Allene Silvia Reynolds, 81, of Tilley Avenue, Newport, RI, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Newport Hospital.She was the former wife of the late Fred C. Reynolds. Born in Portsmouth, RI on October 22, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Corey Silvia.Mrs. Reynolds worked for Transcom for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was also a waitress at the former Pats Diner for many years and worked at the Newport Naval Torpedo Station. Mrs. Reynolds served as a crossing guard at Hillside and Beacon Avenue. She was a member of the Off Broadway Neighborhood Association and the F.O.P.A. She was an avid gardener and did all the gardening for Mt. Zion AME Church and Equality Park. She is survived by her sons, Frederick Reynolds and his wife Barbara of Gloucester, MA, Edward Reynolds of Newport, RI and Alfred Reynolds of West Palm Beach, FL; her daughters, Gloria J. Mitchell and her husband Maurice of Newport, RI and Pamela Marshall and her husband Eddie of Middletown, RI; her brothers, Douglas Silvia of Portsmouth, RI and Richard Silvia of Newport, RI; her sister, Eleanor Jean Ramsey of North Carolina; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Donald Reynolds and Kenneth Reynolds and the sister of the late Walter Silvia and Dorothy Silveira. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 4-8 pm with prayers at 7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.
