Almarinda T. Lopes

Portsmouth, RI - Almarinda T. Lopes, 100, of Portsmouth, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Village House Nursing Home Newport, RI. Born in Fall River, MA on November 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Cambra) Travassos. Alma was the wife of the late Joseph F. Lopes. Alma worked for many years in the school lunch program throughout Newport County. She was a talented quilter, often making quilts for family and friends. Alma loved music, gardening, animals, cooking and baking however her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma is survived by her son Joseph C. Lopes and his wife Lillian of Portsmouth, RI, her grandchildren Mary Jane (Lopes) Hladick and her husband Dean of Portsmouth, RI, Joseph C. Lopes II and his wife Jennifer (Bulk) of Middletown, RI, and Timothy Lukaskik of Sicklerville, NJ, her great grandchildren Connor J. Hladick and Emma J. Hladick of Portsmouth, RI, Joseph C. Lopes III and Jonathan R. Lopes of Middletown, RI, her sister Olive Cote of Tiverton, RI, her brothers James and Edmond Travassos both of Fall River, MA and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her daughter Almarinda Lukasik and siblings Mary Lopes, Georgianna Silvia, Elvira Lecko, Joseph Travassos and Henry Travassos.Alma was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.Alma's family would like to thank the staff at Village House for the wonderful care she received while residing there.
