Alysious M. Stoos

Alysious Mathias Stoos, 90, of 6 Aquidneck Drive, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at home in Middletown, RI. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Kachinski) Stoos.Born in LeMars, Iowa on February 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Matthew and Bertha (Bender) Stoos. Alysious served in the US Navy for 29 years, serving during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer. After his service in the Navy, he worked Combustion Engineering Company of Windsor, Ct. for 10 years. As a service engineer, his many assignments brought him to many foreign countries where he was responsible for inspecting power plants. Red was also a member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus. He is survived by two sons Michael Stoos and Joseph H. Stoos, both of Middletown, RI, three daughters Victoria Ripa of Portsmouth, RI, Paula Stoos of Middletown, RI, and Anna Braga of Portsmouth, RI, as well as 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two daughters Barbara Ann Barra and Mary L. Stoos, one grandson Carl Gillies Jr., and four brothers Sebastian Stoos, Herman Stoos, Paul Stoos, and Albert Stoos.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 10 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 8:00 from the Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
