Amy Patrice Alves (Huntley), 54, a resident of Newport, RI, passed away on Thursday, January 17th, 2013, at home surrounded by her family and friends. Amy was born in Tacoma Park, MD on April 10, 1958. Daughter of the late Clarence O'Neil and the late Harriet Madonna (Byrne) Huntley.She was extraordinary from the very beginning. At a young age she was crowned the Heart Princess for The American Heart Assoc. She enjoyed dancing and swimming and won multiple awards achievements including: RI State Backstroke Championship, US Navy Junior Swim Team (1969-71). She had a strong love for the ocean dolphins. Amy was a volunteer for the Pop Warner football program all youth sports in Newport Middletown for over 30 yrs. Amy was a lover of sports especially the New Orleans Saints. She was employed in the restaurant industry for many years allowing her to share her love passion for cooking. More recently, she was employed at Cranston Calvert School in Newport. Amy's loving soul and giving heart made her the "mother hen" not only to all of her students, but to her family, friends, and all of their children as well. Amy is survived by her best friend and husband of 16 yrs, Louis Alves; her twin sons, Austin Louis Alves and Andrew Louis Alves; her five sisters Heidi Almeida (Charles), Gretchen Breindel (Thomas), Stacey Marshall (Paul), Kristin Sutton (Ben), Jennifer Denning (James); her four brothers Clarence B. Huntley, Andrew Huntley (Debbie), Robert Huntley, Lt. Col. Peter Huntley (Krista) and a clan of nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 4-7PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 9am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Rd., Middletown, RI.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: "The Children of Amy Alves Fund", People's Credit Union, 43 Memorial Blvd., Newport, RI 02840.
