Andrew Deery

Middletown, RI - Andrew Drew Deery, 79, of 873 Mitchells Lane, Middletown, RI, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI with his family by his side.He was the husband of Margaret Peggy Cloud Deery for 53 years. Born in Newport, RI on June 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Patrick H. and Margaret L. Rita Callahan Deery.Drew attended De la Salle and graduated from Rogers High School. Mr. Deery served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for 23 years for C D Transportation and then went on to Fall River New Bedford Express for another 23 years, where he retired from the Teamsters Local 526 in 1996. He also worked for JAM Construction Company for the past several years. He was a communicant of Jesus Savior Church. Drew was a member of Vasco Da Gama Holy Ghost Society. He was an avid bowler and bocci player and enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes. Mr. Deery loved woodworking and crafts. Besides his wife Peggy, he is survived by his daughters Terri Ponte and her husband Stephen of Middletown, RI, Beth Deery of Middletown, RI and Meg Ferreira and her husband Steven of Middletown, RI, his grandchildren, Joshua, Kelsey and Andrew Ponte and Amber and Lily Ferreira, his brother Robert E. Deery of Chicago, IL, his brother-in-law Dick Carroll of The Villages, FL, his sister-in-law Alice Deery of Newport, RI and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Paul H. Deery and Patricia Deery Carroll and brother-in-law of the late Dorine Deery. His funeral will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on, Thursday, September 17, 2009, from 4-8 in the funeral home.
