Anita Maria Sekunda

Newport, RI - Anita Maria Berthiaume Sekunda, 96, of 113 Second Street, Newport, RI, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.She was the wife of the late Stanley F. Sekunda, Sr. Born in Fall River, MA on April 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose Rioux Berthiaume.Mrs. Sekunda moved to Newport with her young family from Fall River. She was a communicant of St. Josephs Church and was also a member of their Rosary Society. For several years, she volunteered at the Corpus Christi Carmelite Convent to assist with their annual fair. She is survived by her children, Stanley Sekunda Jr. of Middletown, RI, Lillian Kaiser of Elcajon, CA, and James Sekunda of Newport, RI, her sister Lillian Gendreau of California, six grandchildren Michael Sekunda, Donna Savage, RoseAnne Warburton, Amy Borges, Kimberly and Kenneth Kaiser, and five great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Jean Dube and Bernadette LaCroix, and great grandmother of the late Thomas Connor Savage. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
