Newport, RI - Anna M. Thornton Murphy, 64, of 197 Park Holm, Newport, RI, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in Galway, County Ireland, on February 6, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Elizabeth Niland Thorton.Anna worked at the Sportsman Restaurant for 35 years and for 7 years at Lil Bear Lounge. She attended St. Lucys Church, was an avid card player and loved spending time with her family and friends enjoying a hot cup of tea! She is survived by her son Michael D. Murphy of Stuart, FL, her daughter Cheryl Ann Murphy of Fall River, MA, her brother Patrick Thornton of Ireland, her sisters Josephine Bernard of England, Bridget Flanagan, Geraldine Maloney, Laura Powel and Margaret Lennighan all of Ireland and Mary Porter of Texas, her grandchildren Tara Murphy, Erin Murphy, Luzcelenia Murphy, Patrick M. Tilley, Katelyn Tilley and Justin Tilley and her great grandchildren JSean Murphy and Tyrel Schwartz. A Prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 5:00 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, from 2-6 in the funeral home.Her reception to follow at 7PM at the Lil Bear Lounge, Main Road, Tiverton.
