She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Silvia. Born in Newport, RI, on February 17, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Rosa White Silvia. Mrs. Silvia was a Commnicant of St. Lucys Church in Middletown. She returned to Portugal as a young girl and worked in a cheese processing company before returning to the United States as a young woman in 1926. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting for her family, making sure they all had a hand made afghan. She is survived by three sons Joseph R. Silvia of Portsmouth, RI, Peter F. Silvia of Middletown, RI, and John R. Silvia of Dighton, MA, seven daughters Theresa A. Garcia of Middletown, RI, Anna E. Leonard of Bristol, RI, R ose M. Amirault of GreenValley, AZ, Mary E. Stonecipher of Poway, CA, Cecilia M. Leary of Newport, RI, Helen Bailey of Goshen, IND., and Claire M. Pimentel of Middletown, RI, a sister Rose Escobar of San Clara, CA, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Manuel P. Silvia and Mary Silvia.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 8:00 AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM, in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown?s Lane, Middletown.
