Middletown, RI - Anne Murdoch Allan, 62, of Middletown, RI, died Friday, April 27, 2007 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. Born in Newport, RI on October 7, 1944, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Anne Murdoch Allan, Jr.Ms. Allan was a 1962 graduate of Rogers High School and a 1966 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. She was a science and health teacher at Thompson Middle School and a Department Head for 31 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Trinity Choir and the St. George?s Choir and vestry and was also on both St. George?s and Trinity?s Altar Societies. Anne was a member of the Newport Historical Society, the Redwood Library, the Newport County Genealogical Society, the National Genealogical Society, the New England Genealogical and History Society. Anne was Worthy Matron of Nestell Chapter #6, Grand Esther of the Grand Chapter of Rhode Island and Newport Assembly # 5 Order of the Rainbow, the Past esteemed Practor of the West Bay Rainbow Alumnae, a directress of the Townsend Aid for Aged, and a past president of Gamma Iota Chapters of the Education Honor Society. Anne coached cheerleading for many years at Thompson and was also the 1st yearbook advisor of the middle school. She loved antique collecting, knitting, pets and volunteerism. She is survived by her cousins, Allan D. Spotts and his wife Karen of Cromwell, Ct., Stephen J. Spotts and his wife Jacqueline of El Paso, TX, Jane Hand of Downey, CA, Frances McFadden of Bell, CA and David O?Neill of FL. She was the cousin of the late Peter J. O?Neill. Her funeral will be held on Friday May 4, 2007 at 10:00am in Trinity Church Queen Anne?s Square, Newport. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 5 -8 pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport, RI.
