Anne Elizabeth Landry

Newport, RI - Anne Elizabeth Pierce Landry, 87, of Newport, RI, died Saturday, January 14, 2007, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Bienvenu Landry. Born in Union Springs, AL, on September 27, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth Thompson Pierce. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA before marrying Mr. Landry.She moved to New Orleans in 1939 after her marriage. There they raised their two daughters. They started the Cortney Company, Inc. in 1948. After Mr. Landry?s death in 1972, Mrs. Landry became president of the company until she sold it in 1983 and moved permanently to Newport, RI. She will be greatly missed by her two daughters and their husbands Pierce and Hans Jonassen of New Orleans, LA, and Nancy and Earl A. Rusty Powell of Washington, DC. She was devoted to and cherished by her extended family of five grandchildren, their spouses and her four great grandchildren: Hans and Jackie Jonassen of Durham, NC, Pierce Jonassen and Thomas Young and their children William and Helen of New Orleans, Cortney Powell and Arthur Maurice Chaite and their children, Alexander ?Ryce? and Maisie Oneal of Baltimore, MD, E. Channing Powell of New York, NY and Sumner Powell of Washington, DC.Services will be private.
