Anne Louise (Moriarty) Magee, beloved Mother, Nana, great-grandmother 90, formerly of Newport died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 after a long illness, at Life Care Center of Melbourne, FL. She was surrounded by her loving family.She was the wife of the late Francis Robert Magee. They were married for 60 yrs.Born September 27, 1922 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and May (Quinn) Moriarty. She was an only child she and her dog Sandy , a Scottish terrier, enjoyed many years together on Prairie Ave.She received a silver medal, her freshman year at Rogers HS for the highest grades. Even though she was accepted at Pembroke College at Brown University, she wanted to attend URI with her friends. She graduated from the University of R.I. which she entered at the age of 16. She worked at the Post Office for a number of years then took courses at Salve Regina University to become a teacher. Anne was an avid stamp collector and a competitive bridge player. She was a sports enthusiast, cheering for the Celtics, Patriots and also a fan of golf and professional tennis. She enjoyed many years at third beach with her circle of friends. She loved swimming, especially the backstroke. Pink was her favorite color. She even had her house on Kempsen Stl. painted pink. After retiring, she spent her winters in Sun City Center, Fl. with her husband, Bob. This was a very happy time for both of them. While they were there, they celebrated their 50th anniversary with many friends and relatives.Mrs. Magee was a teacher at Sheffield School Miss Collings School of Newport for 25 years, retiring in 1982. She is survived by her children, Francis R. Magee, Jr. and his wife Nancy, of Palm Coast, FL., Thomas H. Magee and his wife Christina, of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Barbara A. Berube of Plymouth, MA and Mary E. Magee of Newport, RI: and four grandchildren, Melissa Berube, Michael Berube, Erin Magee and Alison Magee. She is survived by one great-grandchild, Nathan Berube.Calling hours will be held on, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, from 8-9:30am, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will follow, at 9:30 am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Josephs Church, Mann Avenue, Newport, RI, 02840, the American Heart Association, 1 State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908 or the Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210.
