Portsmouth, RI - Anthony Edward Furtado, 75, of 154 McCorrie Lane, Portsmouth, RI, died at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was the husband of Grace L. Brownell Furtado who were married for 40 years. Born in Newport, RI on January 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Manuel and Louise Furtado.Mr. Furtado was a US Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a contractor restoring many colonial and historic homes in Newport. Mr. Furtado also worked for Doris Duke and was the general foreman for Bowens Wharf for more than 30 years. He was a member of the National Riffle Association, loved sailing, hunting, and was a master craftsman. He is survived by his children, Kristie Widmann and her husband, George of Clearwater, FL, Cindy Furtado and her husband, Greg Gau of Manley Hot Springs, Alaska, Dorothy DeWolf and her husband, Dick of Bowling Green, OH, Elizabeth Furtado of Newport, RI, Selene Gemmell of Portsmouth, RI, Lynne DeCotis and her husband, Gerard of Newport, RI, Suzanne Moore and her husband, Randy of Raymond, NH, Kim Furtado and his wife, Beverly of Newport, RI, Charles Gemmell and his wife Marilyn of Bradford, RI, Michael Gemmell and his wife, Lisa of Indialantic, FL, Thomas Furtado and his wife, Karen Dowler of Newport, RI, and Pete Gemmell and his wife, Mary of Dover, NH, thirteen grandsons, fourteen granddaughters, six great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, his beloved dog, Oliver, and his siblings, John Pete Furtado, Charles Furtado, both of Newport, RI, and Agnes Pat Rogers of California.He was the father of the late Delene Furtado and Anthony J. Furtado and the brother of the late Joseph Manuel, Albert, Manual Ernest, William, George, Francis, Richard, Louise, Mary and Albertina. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 9 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
