Anthony G. Vieira

Middletown, RI - Anthony G. Vieira, 87, of Reardon Drive, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the John Clarke Health Care Center in Middletown.He was the husband of Ann DelRoss Vieira.Born in San Miguel, Portugal on October 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Garcia Vieira.Mr. Vieira served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a rigger for Newport Shipyard for 24 years before retiring. He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and was a member of the Vasco da Gama Society and the Knights of Columbus.In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his brothers, Joseph Vieira of Middletown, RI and Jesse Vieira of Portsmouth, RI, his sisters, Helen Prescott and Barbara Ames, both of Middletown, RI, and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Manuel Vieira, Mary Lynch, Connie Silveira and Theresa Dresser. His funeral will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 8 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial with military honors will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
