Anthony Garcia

Middletown, RI - Anthony Garcia, 89, of 72 Valley Road, Middletown, RI, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Rosalind Ann Griffin Garcia and Marguerite Kane Garcia.Born in Newport, RI on December 14, 1919, he was the son of the late Antone G. and Isabel Vierra Garcia.Anthony was co-owner of IVG Construction with his brother Raymond which was founded by their mother Isabel Vierra Garcia. Mr. Garcia served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at NUSC as a mechanical engineering technician; he also worked at the Torpedo Station. Mr. Garcia was an original member of the North End Club, a member of the Lions Club and was also past president of Wanemutonomy Golf Club. He loved basketball and baseball and was a former pitcher in Sunset League. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, playing golf and being a goof ball. He is survived by his children, Gregory Garcia of California, Henry David Garcia of Portsmouth, RI, Christopher Garcia of Satellite Beach, FL, Linda Mosher of Texas, Laurel Thayer of Middletown, RI and Carrie Rose of Tiverton, RI, his brother Raymond P. Garcia of Newport, RI, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was also the former husband of Anstris Wilkey Garcia.He was the father of the late Dr. Robert Garcia and the brother of the late George Garcia, John Garcia, Mary Jones, Adeline Rosenberg and Isabel Bucko. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008, from 5-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.
