Anthony Sylvester

Newport, - Anthony Sylvester, 87, of 398 Bellevue Avenue Newport, formerly of 10B Rolling Green, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI.He was the husband of Erland DeCorsa Sylvester of Newport. Born in Brockton, MA on March 5, 1916, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Sylvestri Sylvester. Mr. Sylvester was a Master Sargent in the United States Air Force for twenty years. His last assignment for the Air Force was to establish the ROTC program at Hobart College in Geneva New York. After retirement from the Air Force he was a supervisor of the grounds and maintanence department at Hobart College. He retired with his wife to Newport in 1981. He was a member of the V.F.W. both in Newport and New York. Besides his wife of 61 years he leaves a daughter in law Joanne Sylvester, a grandson Jon Sylvester and a granddaughter Julie Sylvester all of Wakefield, MA, a brother Nicholas Sylvester of Brockton, MA, a sister Louise Cirelli of Brockton, MA, He was father of the late Eugene Sylvester and brother of the late Caroline Whitman. His funeral will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 8:00 AM from the Hambly Funeral Home 30 Red Cross Avenue Newport with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St.Lucy?s 909 West Main Road Middletown.Burial will be in VA National Cemetery of Massachusetts at Bourne.
