Anthony Toppa

Anthony S. Toppa, 55, of 76 Broadway, Newport, RI, died on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at home.Born in Newport, RI on March 8, 1958, he was the son of the late Augustin A. Toppa and Jane F. (Cochrane) Toppa.Tony was a lobster and shell fisherman and was an avid animal lover.He is survived by his daughter, Tara Alves of Fall River, MA; his son, Anthony Alves, serving in the US Navy; his brothers, George Toppa, Augustin Toppa, John Toppa, Joseph Toppa and James Toppa; his sisters, Mary Jane Zelinger, Marie Halton, Maureen Donovan and Tina Doyle; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews, Tony also leaves his life-long friend Bobby Mitchell.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013from 5-7PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Seaman's Church Institute, 18 Market Square, Newport, RI 02840.
