Antonio Jorge Souto

Middletown, RI - Antonio Jorge Souto, 93, of 484 Turner Road, Middletown, RI, died Monday, July 5, 2010 peacefully at home.He was the loving husband of Angelina Emilia Soito Souto. Born in Praia do Norte, Faial, Azores, on May 26, 1917, he was the son of the late Jose Jorge and Maria Gomes Souto.Mr. Souto moved to Rhode Island in 1959. He worked for Nunes Motor Co. in Newport for 6 years then began a career with American Wire Insulated Co. of Pawtucket for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He was a very faithful and dedicated parishioner of Jesus Savior Church. His strong religions faith was the foundation of his strong family. He was a quiet and hard working man who maintained an immaculate garden and home. Besides his wife of 70 years, he is survived by his children, Maria Pereira and her husband Antonio of Nokesville, VA, Antonio Jorge DoSouto, Jr. and his wife Delfina of Bristol, RI, Hilda Santo and her husband Frank, Helen Gaston and her husband Richard, Lydia Davis, Mario Souto and his wife Sue, all of Middletown, RI and Roger Souto of Newport. He was a loving and generous Vavo to seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eddy Souto and the brother of the late Miguel, Jose, Manuel Souto and Maria Soares. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010, from 4:00-8:00pm, in the funeral home.His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.
