Portsmouth, RI ? Arlene Howell Edwards, 95, of 13 Viking Drive, Portsmouth, RI, a lifelong resident of Newark and E. Orange, NJ, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Vernon S. Edwards, Sr. Born in Potterstown, NJ on July 25, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Nellie Schuyler Howell.Arlene had worked as a secretary/bookkeeper and teacher for Drake Business College, for 33 years, before retiring in 1978. She was a 1928 graduate of Hampton High School and completed secretarial courses at Churchmans Business School in Easton, PA. An avid wrestling fan, Arlene was the International President of the Antonino Rocca fan club. She also loved to travel. She is survived by her sons Vernon S. Edwards, Jr. of Portsmouth, RI and William A. Crook of Norfolk, VA, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
