Arlene Elizabeth Mulligan

Arlene Elizabeth Mulligan, 82, of Portsmouth died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA. She was the wife of Craig Mulligan.Born on August 24, 1933 in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Harrington) Sullivan. Mrs. Mulligan was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Catherine LaBoure Nursing School and received her Bachelor's degree from URI. Arlene traveled extensively with her husband throughout the U.S. and Europe. Her summers were spent at her beloved summer cottage swimming and spending time with her family. Arlene was very active in support of the Veterans and sent many packages to our soldiers overseas especially in Afghanistan and Iraq.In addition to her parents Arlene is predeceased by her brothers Joseph Sullivan and Edward Sullivan.Besides her husband of 55 years, she is survived by her sister Anna Gorton of Portsmouth, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.Her family will begin receiving family and friends at 10:30 am in St. Anthony's Church. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Monday, December 21, 2015, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dpt.
