Middletown, RI - Armand J. ?Red? Dor, Jr, 80, of 76 Purgatory Road, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Flora Tougas Dor for 49 years. Born in Newport, RI on May 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Armand J. and Catherine Cappuccilli Dor.?Red? was a lifelong resident of Purgatory Road, Middletown. He attended St. Mary?s School and after graduating Rogers High School, he entered the Merchant Marines and served during WWII. Upon completion of his term, he was drafted into the US Army. After his Army service, he attended URI, but soon began a career in radio. He worked for WADK in Newport in sales and WNRI in Woonsocket as a DJ. He then took a job at the Newport Naval Base, where he worked for over 20 years. He retired in 1987 as the Supervisor of Receiving and Shipping for the supply department at NETC. Red also ran the Press Trailer for the Newport Jazz Festivals during the 1960s. He also held a position as Director of Admissions at Newport Jai Alai for nearly 25 years. Mr. Dor was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary?s Church, Newport, a member of the Middletown Historical Society and the Newport Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid Jazz enthusiast and shared his love of music throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife Flora Dor of Middletown, RI, a son William Dor of Middletown, RI, a daughter Barbara Wright of Little Compton, RI, his granddaughter Michelle Wright of Little Compton, RI, and grandson Lars Colin Wright of Little Compton, RI. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at 9:00am from the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 27 from 4-8pm in the Hambly Funeral Home.
