Arnold Dunbar Chaplin Portsmouth, RI - Arnold Dunbar Chaplin, 86, of 7 Debra Drive, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at home. He was the husband of the late Alice Terpening Chaplin. Born in Providence, RI on March 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Arthur Wilfred and Florence Luther Chaplin.Mr. Chaplin served in the U.S. Army in both WWII and the Korean War. He later worked as a foreman in the trucking department for the U.S. Navy Department for 33 years. Mr. Chaplin was a member of the VFW Post #4487. In his free time he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and he loved to watch Texas Walker Ranger. He is survived by his long time companion Gwendolyn Storer of Fall River, MA, his children Arnold Dunbar Chaplin, Jr. of Uncasville, CT, Kenneth Richard Chaplin of Moyok, NC, James L. Chaplin of Tiverton, RI, Keith Allan Chaplin of Fall River, MA, and Karol Ann Chaplin of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Rev. George M. Chaplin of Newport, RI, Arthur W. Chaplin of Portsmouth, RI, and Samuel L. Chaplin of Middletown, RI, nineteen grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Sharon Gail Mortensen and the brother of the late Robert B. Chaplin, C. Kenneth Chaplin, and Eleanor J. Burgess.A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at 10:00am, in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown.
