Arthur A. Albro Jr

Middletown, RI - Arthur A. Albro, Jr., Mr. Albro was the husband of the late Louise E. DeBlois Albro who preceded him in death in 2001 and the son of the late Middletown Police Chief Arthur A. and Martha A. Albro.He was a 10th generation descendent of John Albro who arrived in Boston from Ipswich, England in 1634 on the ship Francis. John came to Aquidneck Island in 1638 with the founders of Portsmouth. Mr. Albro held various jobs through the years, including the elected office of Middletown Town Sergeant, working at the Hereshoff boat yard and the Naval Torpedo Stations, followed by 10 years as a farm manager and 19 years with the former Newport Electric Corporation, retiring in 1975 as an engineer in the power house. In retirement, Mr. Albro worked part-time as a carpenter and traveled extensively with his wife in New England. Mr. Albro was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed competitive shooting, hunting, genealogy, and working with his tools. He was an active communicant of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and served two terms as a member of the Vestry. He leaves three children Linda J. Burkitt of Middletown, RI, Col. William A. Albro USAF Ret of Olympia, WA and Phyllis L. Armbrust of Chula Vista, CA, five grandchildren, Bryan R. Armbrust, Jon M. Armbrust, Thomas W. Albro, Todd M. Albro and Robin Louise Burkitt, ten great grandchildren, Tina Marie Armbrust Atkins, Keith Armbrust, Bryan Russell-Remington Armbrust, Jon Michael Armbrust Jr., Michael Armbrust, Nathaniel T. Albro, Kelsey C. Albro, Sarah C. Albro, Nicole M. Albro and Luke M. Albro, three great-great grandchildren, Madelyn Marie Atkins, Kelly Armbrust and Sean Armbrust and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ruth Peckham and Vera Larsen. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007, at 10:00am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2007 from 2-4pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI, 02842.
