Arthur John Michael

Newport, RI - Arthur John Michael, 74, of 129 Washington Street, Newport, RI, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. He was the husband of Mary Logothets Michael. Born in Newport, RI on August 29, 1933, he was the son of the late John C. and Catherine Bozas Michael natives of Skiathos, Greece. Mr. Michael was a self employed master carpenter. He also worked as a planner and estimator at the Public Works Department of the U. S. Naval Station Newport, retiring in April of 2001. Mr. Michael designed and built his own home during the 70s. He was a life long member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Island of Skiathos Organization. Mr. Michael enjoyed salt water fishing for stripe bass and was involved with his daughter and son in ice hockey. Besides his wife of 38 years, he is survived by his son John A. Michael of Newport, RI, his daughter Kathryn Williams, her husband John and his granddaughter Mary of Upton, MA, his brother Charles Michael of Middletown, RI, his sister-in-law Myrsine Logothets of Newport, RI, and his nieces Stamatia Tammy Logothets, Kathryn McKeon and her husband Brian T. McKeon and Christina Logothets and other nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Michael and Despina Pappas and the brother-in-law of the late Constantine Gus S. Logothets. His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 9:00 am from the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a funeral service at 10:00 am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Island Cemetery in Newport.Calling hours will be held at the Hambly Funeral Home, on Friday, February 15, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home.
