Portsmouth, RI - August J. Minese, 93, of Aquidneck Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol, RI.He was the husband of Jean L. Hill Minese. Born in Portsmouth, RI on September 27, 1917, he was the son of the late August J. and Mary Correiro Minese.Mr. Minese served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Public Works Department on the Newport Naval Base for 31 years retiring in 1973. He also operated the Little Acres Farm and vegetable stand on Chase Road in Portsmouth from 1945 to 1980. Mr. Minese liked to go to auctions, dog races and Jai Alai. He enjoyed hunting, salt water fishing and his dog Betsey. In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his sons, Ronald F. Minese, Michael A. Minese, David J. Minese and his wife, Laura, and Gerald A. Minese, all of Portsmouth, RI; his daughter, Michelle Medeiros and her husband, Ronald, of Little Compton, RI; his grandchildren, Jennifer M. Aguiar, Michael Minese, Katherine Minese, Mathew David Minese and Nathan Minese, all of Portsmouth, RI, Thomas A. Fagan, Jr. of Middletown, RI, Lisa Fagan of Portsmouth, RI and Melissa Medeiros of Little Compton, RI; and his great-grandchildren, Matthew L. Aguiar and Christopher Matley of Portsmouth, RI and Tyler Fagan and Jacob Fagan of Middletown, RI.He was the father of the late Marie Ann Fagan, the grandfather of the late Christopher A. Hero Medeiros and the brother of the late Antone Minese and Jesse Minese.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 8:30-9:30 am in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 am in St. Anthony Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial with military honors will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
