Augusto "Oggie" Trapela

Middletown, RI - Augusto "Oggie" C. Trapela, 72, of 53 Jean Street, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Belen (Canlas) Trapela. Born in Manila the Philippines, on September 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Florentino and Patrocino (Curiano) Trapela.Oggie grew up in the Philippines and joined the US Navy at the age of 18. He served aboard the USS Salisbury Sound and the USS Vogelgesang (DD-862) After retiring from a Navy career of 25 years, Oggie continued his career for 20 more years at NETC. He and his wife were members of the Phil Am Association. Oggie enjoyed exercise, lifting weights and keeping in shape. Besides his wife of 48 years, he is survived by his children, Maria Bixby and her husband Peter of Portsmouth, RI, Michael Trapela of Middletown, RI, Luisa Trapela of Middletown, RI and Mark Trapela and his wife Kate of Bangor, ME, his sisters Milagros Graves and Lucy Torre Campo of California, and his grandchildren, Jessica Bixby, Liam Bixby, John Trapela and Luke Trapela. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, from 6:00-9:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
