Barbara A. Mahoney

Newport, RI - Barbara A. Arruda Mahoney, 68, of 14 D Coddington Manor, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the home of her son surrounded by her family.She was the wife of the late Joseph Mahoney. Born in Providence, RI on March 26, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Delvida F. Sylvia Robinson and Joseph Arruda.Barbara was an avid Bingo and card player. She was a devoted New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. Barbara worked many years for Transcom in Newport and at Newport Marriott and later as a crossing guard for the Newport Public School System. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons Joseph Arruda, John A. Mahoney and his wife Karen all of Hyannis, MA and Raymond J. Mahoney of Florida. She was the sister of Raymond Arruda of Griffin, GA, Julia Mahoney and Shirley Sullivan both of Newport. Barbara also leaves two grandchildren Nicholas Arruda of Newport, RI and Alexis Arruda of Hyannis, MA as well as her close cousin Beverly F. Leduc of Fall River and life long friend Shari Matoes.She was the mother of the late Joan L. Arruda. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 4-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11:00AM, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
