Barbara Anne Chavous

Barbara Anne Chavous, 80, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on December 24, 1934 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Smith and Antoinette (Ferreira) Smith. Devoted mother, she is survived by her seven children; Barbara A. Stanford of Brooksville, Florida (Tom); Donna M. Pine of Newport, RI; Russell Chavous of Newport, RI; Joann L. Pasquale (Frank) of Middletown, RI; Sheryl E. Chavous of North Kingstown, RI; Robert D. Chavous (Kim) of Portsmouth, RI; and Richard M. Chavous (Erin) of Middletown, RI. "Gram" to eight grandchildren and "Great Gram" to two great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Joan Pfund of Sellersburg, Indiana, her brother William H. Smith Jr. of Port Richey, Florida, one aunt, and nieces and nephews.She loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a kind and self-sacrificing heart, always putting others ahead of herself. It was the little things in life that brought her joy. She spent many vacations in Florida and enjoyed going on a number of cruises. Some of her other interests included painting, arts and crafts, and going to yard sales. She was a member of the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses at Kingdom Hall.A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall, 36 Hillside Avenue, Newport, RI.Burial will be private.
