Barbara Anne (Hale) Ford, 92, of Middletown, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late CDR JD Ford USN/RET.Born on November 3, 1922, in Newport, RI, she was the eldest daughter of the Late Harold D. and Anne F. (Hughes) Hale.She was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1940.Barbara moved back to Middletown from Stanardsville (Charlottesville), VA, in 2008. She was a communicant of St. Josephs Church until 1959 and recently, St. Lucys Church. She was a 30 years member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was on the National Board of Realtors. Barbara excelled in the home arts, including; hostessing, baking, canning (with JD), sewing, knitting and smocking.We will miss her pies!We happly remember how people arrived earlty to wait in line for her pies and jams for sale at the local farmers market in Virginia. She enjoyed her retirement with JD at a 300 acre working farm community, with other retirees whom our family enjoyed knowing for many years. It was a true country life in the land of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.She is survived by her childrne, Peter W. Ford and his wife Karen of Milton, FL, Jane Ann Simcock and her hsuband Michael, of Columbia, MD, Elizabeth Louise Maroney and her husband Michael, of Middletown, RI, and Barbara Jill Ford of Fairfax, VA; her siblings, Harold D Hale, Jr. and his wife Kathleen (Sullivan), and Frank S. Hale II and his wife Carol (Bottorff), all of Middletown, RI, Mary Elizabeth Silvia, of San Antonio, TX, and Jane C. Hale and Suzanne Nunes, all of Middletown, RI. She leaves ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and godchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, JD Ford, her sons, Robert D. Ford and Daniel B. Ford, her brother, Robert C. Hale, her great grandchildren, Thomas Ford and Anna Jane Elizabeth Hellendrung, and her brothers-in-law, Joseph Vincent Silvia, John F. Nunes, and TW (Bud) Ford, her nephews, Harold D. Hale III (godson) and Thomas V. Silvia, her niece, Denise Silvia and her great-nieces, Suzanne Silvia-Cramer and Josie Marie Young.The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.Calling hours respectfully omitted.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
