Barbara Crane Sullivan, 88, of 55 Miantonomi Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at John Clarke Nursing Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late John Rae Sullivan.Born in Newport, RI on June 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Justin and Grace Langley Crane.Mrs. Sullivan was a 1936 graduate of Rogers High School and a 1939 graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation she worked for several years in the Newport Hospital. After her husband returned from WWII, they began a family. Once the children were older, she returned to work as a nurse in private duty. She was a lifelong member of St. Georges Episcopal Church in Newport. Barbara was also a bowler many years ago, playing for the Kitchen Keglers team. She was also an avid Bridge player, meeting the same group to play for many years.She is survived by a son John Justin Sullivan of Holden, MA, and a daughter Paula Crane Stebbins of Middletown, RI, and her sister Beryl Goodwin Carrington of Sarasota, FL, and five grandchildren, William Rae Sullivan, Jr, Tammi Lynn Swensen, Jay Kyle Sullivan, Kristie Lynn Capurso, and Laura Rae Stebbins; and one great grandchild Devin Michael Capurso. She was preceded in death by her son William Rae Sullivan, her daughter in law Janice DeCastro Sullivan, and her granddaughter Kathleen Langley Sullivan. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 10:00am in St. Georges Episcopal, 14 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 13 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI, 02903.
