Barbara Fiszel

November 2, 1949 — February 24, 2025

Barbara Ann Fiszel, age 75, died in her home in Newport, RI on February 24, 2025. Barbara was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Barbara met her husband for 55 years, Geoffrey L. Fiszel, at New York University and they moved to Glastonbury, CT in 1974.

Barbara was, first and foremost, a dedicated wife and mother with four children: Sharon, Morgan, Austin and Alex. Barbara was also a Real Estate Agent and Broker licensed in CT and RI. She was also a patron of the arts, supporting CT artists by paying artists studio rent and expenses and purchasing their paintings. Barbara was an avid gardener, beautifying spaces with plantings and architectural enhancements providing "eye candy" for neighbors and passerby.

Barbara is survived by her husband; Geoffrey; their son, Morgan of Clearwater, FL; their son, Austin of Provincetown, MA; Alexander of Bristol, CT; and their son-in-law, David Harris and their grandchild, Morgan Ryder Harris of Old Lyme, CT. Barbara's death was preceded by that of her beloved daughter, Sharon Fiszel-Harris in 2014. Barbara is also survived by several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Her sister, Sharon, for whom her daughter was named was her best friend and it was she, their dear friend, Christiane ("Sara") Raff, and her son , Austin, who were Barbara's caretakers during the period that led to The End of Days. Andrea Colognese and his wife, Doriana Carella of Jamestown, RI provided welcome familial support, seeing to it all were well fed and taking care of our alpha female Havanese, Cocoa, a challenge only the select few can meet.

We are appreciative of the Newport Hospital staff that introduced us to Hope Health, both of which provided seamless health care services, and Memorial Funeral Home, Newport, RI which made a difficult situation far less so.

Memorial Services to celebrate Barbara's life will be private affairs held in both Newport, RI and Glastonbury, CT be by invitation. No flowers please. If you are philanthropically inclined make donations to accredited cancer research and care institutions like the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund (dana-farber.jimmy fund.org) where your contributions can enjoy a 3x donation match, Thank you.
