Barbara Frances Lawrence

Newport, RI - Barbara F. Hicks Lawrence, 85, Newport, RI, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Steven Lawrence, Jr. Born in Newport, RI on May 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ralph M. and Gladys M. Lawton Hicks. Barbara was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite time of year and turned her house into a winter wonderland. She enjoyed walking, dancing, gardening and puzzles. She is survived by her children, William P. Edenbach III and his wife, Marilyn, of Newport, RI, Gale F. Boone and her husband, Dan, of Portsmouth, RI, Shubie Donnelly and her husband, Fran, of Middletown, RI, Cherie L. Raposa and her husband, Ed, of Portsmouth, RI, and Stephanie M. Biello and her husband, David, of Newport, RI; her sister and best friend, Mary L. McKinnon of Illinois, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ralph J. and Joseph E. Hicks, and Anna M. Ledoux. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 8 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
