Barbara Gower Walker

Newport, - Barbara G. MacMillian Walker, 94, of 11 Hillside Avenue Newport, died Thursday, January 8, 2003 at Heatherwood Health Care Center Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Dr. John H. Walker. Born in Kirkentilloch, Scotland on September 17, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Annie Gower MacMillian.Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Boston Children?s Hospital School of Nursing where she became head nurse on the surgical ward during the 1930s. She moved to Newport as a young girl. She is survived by her two grandsons Michael Weiderman of Newport, RI, and John F. Kempenaar of Middletown, RI, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.She was the mother of the late Elizabeth Ann Weiderman and Nancy Jane Kempenaar. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2003, at 9:00AM, in Hambly Funeral Home, ?Brick House?, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Donations in her memory may be made to the Children?s Hospital Trust, 138 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA 02446.
