Barbara Jane Hoff

Portsmouth, RI - Barbara Jane Hoff, 90, formerly of 540 Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton, RI.She was the wife of the late Donald V. Hoff. Born in Cranston, RI on March 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Lucy Newsome Chase. A graduate of Bryant College, she was a member of St. Marys Parish. She served on the Portsmouth School Committee and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She volunteered for both the Head Start program and the Portsmouth Public Library. More recently she participated with the lifelong learning group, BCLIR, at Brown University. She was an avid reader, and cook, and skilled seamstress. She followed politics, enjoyed the Trinity Repertory Theater, and fall camping in Vermont when she wasnt watching the shipping traffic on Narragansett Bay. She is survived by two sons Michael N Hoff and his wife Virginia of Jamestown, RI, Peter V. Hoff and his partner Paul Knieiemen of New York, NY, one daughter Abigail C. Duff and her husband Lawrence of Charlton, MA, and one granddaughter Sarah M. Evans and her husband Aaron of Austin, TX. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 1:00PM, in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
